  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 2.25 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 120 g sugar
  • 240 ml lukewarm milk
  • 60 g unsalted melted butter (cooled to room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (at room temperature)
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla essence

Blueberry Filling Ingredients

  • 300 g blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 130 g granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp water

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp blueberry filling (reserved from above)
  • 110 g cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 3 tbsp icing sugar
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla essence)
  • 30 g whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a bowl, mix the lukewarm milk, egg, vanilla essence, and melted butter until well combined.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, sugar, and instant dry yeast. Make a hole in the center of the dry mixture.
  3. Form the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the center of the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky, uniform dough forms.
  4. First Rise: Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour at room temperature until it doubles in size.
  5. Prepare Blueberry Filling: In a pot, cook blueberries, granulated sugar, salt, ground cinnamon, flour, and water over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency.
  6. Blend and Cool Filling: Immediately blend the cooked blueberry mixture until smooth and let it cool completely.
  7. Roll Out Dough: Lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out the dough to about 2mm thickness.
  8. Spread Filling: Evenly spread the cooled blueberry filling over the rolled-out dough.
  9. Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly into a log shape and cut into individual rolls.
  10. Arrange Rolls: Place the cinnamon rolls on a baking tray lined with baking paper, spacing them slightly apart.
  11. Second Rise: Let the rolls sit in a warm environment for 30 minutes to rise again.
  12. Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  13. Prepare Frosting: Whip together cream cheese, reserved blueberry filling (1 tbsp), vanilla extract, and icing sugar until creamy.
  14. Add Whipping Cream: Gradually add whipping cream while continuing to whip until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  15. Frost Rolls: Once the rolls have cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over them before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is lukewarm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • If using frozen blueberries, thaw and drain excess liquid before making the filling.
  • You can substitute fresh blueberries with frozen, but fresh yields better texture.
  • Letting the rolls rise twice ensures fluffier, softer cinnamon rolls.
  • Allow rolls to cool before applying frosting to prevent it from melting.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving.
