Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 medium fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 810 fresh basil leaves, gently bruised
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
  • 1 tablespoon honey syrup (equal parts honey and warm water)
  • 2 ounces gin (or vodka/tequila)
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • 2 ounces sparkling water
  • Strawberry slice and basil sprig for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Hull and quarter the strawberries, wash and gently dry the basil leaves, and juice one lemon to get approximately 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.
  2. Muddle Fruit and Herbs: In a shaker or mixing glass, add the quartered strawberries and bruised basil leaves. Gently muddle them to release the juices and aromas, being careful not to pulverize the basil leaves completely.
  3. Add Sweetener and Citrus: Pour in 1 tablespoon of honey syrup and 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to the muddled mixture.
  4. Add Spirit: Add 2 ounces of your chosen spirit—gin, vodka, or tequila—into the shaker.
  5. Shake with Ice: Fill the shaker with ice cubes or crushed ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker feels cold and frosty.
  6. Strain Cocktail: Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh crushed ice, ensuring pulp and seeds are filtered out.
  7. Top with Sparkling Water: Gently pour 2 ounces of sparkling water on top of the cocktail to add a refreshing fizz.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with a fresh strawberry slice and a sprig of basil. Serve immediately for best taste and freshness.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the spirit and increase the sparkling water to 4 ounces.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for a sweeter and more flavorful cocktail.
  • Honey syrup is easier to mix than straight honey; prepare by mixing equal parts honey and warm water.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less honey syrup according to your preference.
  • Use crushed ice for a chillier, more diluted drink or ice cubes for a stronger flavor concentration.
