Ingredients

Scale

For the bread

  • 1 baguette (preferably La Brea Bakery for its crust)

For the garlic butter

  • 4.4 oz unsalted butter (softened, Kerrygold recommended)
  • 3 tsp fresh garlic, minced
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture: While preheating your oven, mix the softened butter, freshly minced garlic, salt, finely chopped parsley, black pepper, and Parmesan cheese together in a small bowl until evenly combined. Let the mixture sit for a minute to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Preheat Oven and Prepare the Baguette: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette in half lengthwise. Then, make diagonal cuts about 2cm apart on each half, being careful not to slice all the way through the bottom crust to keep the slices connected.
  3. Generously Distribute the Garlic Butter: Using a butter knife or spreader, spread the garlic butter mixture generously between the slices and over the top and sides of the baguette. Make sure to work the butter deep into the crevices without tearing the bread.
  4. Wrap and Bake Until Golden: Wrap the buttered baguette tightly in aluminum foil to trap steam and ensure even cooking. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes until heated through and sizzling. For crisper edges, unwrap the foil for the last 2-3 minutes of baking.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the baguette from the oven and carefully unwrap the foil, watching for hot steam. Transfer to a serving board. The bread should easily pull apart at the scored lines, warm and aromatic, ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • Do not cut all the way through the bottom crust of the baguette to keep the bread together when serving.
  • Use softened butter, not cold, to prevent tearing the bread and to ease spreading.
  • Wrapping in foil for the first part of baking steams the bread to keep it soft inside while preventing garlic burning.
  • Unwrap the foil for the last few minutes if you want a crispier, golden crust.
  • If substituting bread, note that cooking time might slightly vary depending on bread thickness.
  • Leftover garlic bread can be wrapped in foil and refrigerated for up to 2 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat wrapped in foil at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes, unwrap in the last few minutes for crispiness.
