Apple Cider Syrup is a sweet, buttery syrup bursting with warm apple cider flavor. Perfect as a fall-inspired topping for pancakes, waffles, biscuits, and other breakfast treats, it combines a blend of aromatic spices and a hint of vanilla to elevate your dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Cider Syrup Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • ¾ cup (150 g) dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the dark brown sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and kosher salt until well combined and free of lumps.
  2. Add Liquids: Gradually whisk in the apple cider and apple cider vinegar to the dry mixture, ensuring everything is fully incorporated.
  3. Cook the Syrup: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently. Once it begins bubbling, continue to cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring continuously until the syrup appears glossy and coats the back of a spoon. It may still look slightly thin at this stage.
  4. Finish the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the unsalted butter until fully melted, then add the vanilla extract and stir to combine.
  5. Serve: Use the syrup warm as a delicious topping for pancakes, waffles, biscuits, or other breakfast favorites.

Notes

  • The syrup will thicken further as it cools, so a thinner consistency when hot is expected and not a cause for concern.
