Wet Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Rolling:

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Beat softened butter and brown sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Add Egg and Vanilla: Mix in egg and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Roll the Dough: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat with granulated sugar.
  7. Bake: Place dough balls on the prepared sheet, spaced 2 inches apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are golden and centers appear slightly underdone.
  8. Cool and Serve: Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • You can add chocolate chips or nuts to the dough for additional flavor and texture.
